Overview

TM Process & Controls, Inc. (TMPC) engineered and delivered a chill filtration skid designed to cool, filter, and temper spirits at a small-batch distillery in Rohnert Park, CA. The turnkey system was built to process 6,000 gallons in an 8-hour shift, improving filtration consistency and thermal precision.

Problem

The distillery required a reliable solution to chill spirits to 35°F, filter them using activated carbon, and temper them to 65°F prior to storage—without disrupting the plant’s limited glycol system.

Why we chill filter because the haze forms in bourbon at a certain temperature. When filled bottles are distributed to various areas with varying climates, it precipitates and can only be seen when cold.

Solution

TMPC provided a complete 12.5 GPM chill filtration skid utilizing a two-section plate heat exchanger, a custom carbon filter, centrifugal pump, and integrated electrical and automation systems. TMPC also managed field installation, electrical hookup, automation programming, and operator training.

Results

The new system streamlined chill filtration, allowing consistent temperature control, efficient use of glycol resources, and improved product clarity and throughput. Full automation and SCADA integration boosted usability and traceability across production cycles.
