Services Provided

Design and fabrication of a Class I, Div 1-rated chilled filtration skid (CFS#2); Pre- and post-filtration, depth filtration, heat recovery, and integrated control; Automation and PLC/HMI programming tied into existing plant SCADA and Historian; Mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation installation; Start-up, testing, and training support

Overview

TM Process & Controls, Inc. (TMPC) delivered a turnkey chilled filtration skid to expand production capabilities at a high-volume spirits facility in Plainfield, Illinois. The CFS#2 system processes high-proof alcohol, integrates into hazardous-rated production zones, and mirrors functionality of an existing system for consistent operation. The solution features explosion-proof pumps, sanitary valves, automated CIP compatibility, and real-time historian data integration for quality control and traceability.

Problem

The customer needed to increase chilled filtration capacity for high-proof alcohol while ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and Class I, Div 1 safety requirements. The new system had to support integration with blending and flavor room processes, CIP compatibility, and full automation under strict time and space constraints.

Solution

TMPC engineered and fabricated a custom CFS#2 skid with pre-chilling, heat recovery, and precise temperature control. The system utilized stainless steel sanitary construction, explosion-rated motors, and integration with the facility’s existing glycol chiller, CIP skid, and SCADA system. TMPC also provided all necessary electrical panels, mix-proof valve assemblies, pipe routing, and automation programming.

Results

  • Increased production flexibility and filtration capacity in hazardous environments
  • Seamless integration with existing Prime and Blend Tank operations
  • Improved traceability and automation through historian and SCADA connectivity
  • Successful start-up, testing, and operator training enabled rapid commissioning
