Overview

TM Process & Controls, Inc. (TMPC) provided an in-depth engineering evaluation and ongoing controls support to a major rice milling and packaging facility in California. The support focused on stabilizing, securing, and enhancing critical control systems across multiple plant areas—including milling, packaging, and biosafety systems.

Problem

The facility was experiencing logic errors, limited access for remote support, outdated control platforms (SLC), and safety system inconsistencies. Additionally, operational inefficiencies were emerging from rigid alarm structures and user interface limitations.

Solution

TMPC resolved numerous logic and sequencing issues across the facility, provided support to establish the ideal secure remote access for critical support, updated alarming and HMI screens for better operator interaction, and tested safety shutdown logic. A migration path from legacy SLC controllers to CompactLogix was also proposed for long-term sustainability.

Results

Operational reliability improved significantly, with faster troubleshooting, safer operations, and increased visibility for operators. The integration of new equipment and alarm updates enhanced productivity while laying the groundwork for future upgrades.
